Meet Your Certified Supplier
At Responsible Wood, our mission is to develop and promote globally recognised standards for sustainable forest management and responsible sourcing of forest products through rigorous third-party certification. Recently, our CEO, Simon Dorries, and Sustainability Manager, Matt de Jongh, visited IBuilt Engineered Wood Products to reinforce our shared commitment to sustainability and responsible forestry.
Who is IBuilt?
IBuilt, a division of New Zealand Wood Products Ltd, is a leading provider of engineered wood products in New Zealand. Known for its innovation and high-quality range of engineered wood products, IBuilt’s product range includes laminated veneer lumber (LVL), plywood, and various other building solutions designed for strength, durability, and sustainability. Their products are widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial construction, making IBuilt an important supplier of certified timber products to the built environment.
Commitment to Sustainability
One of the cornerstones of IBuilt’s operations is their dedication to sustainable practices. Their timber is sourced from certified sustainably managed forests and controlled sources, ensuring that the environmental impact of their operations is minimised. This commitment is evident in their use of plantation-grown pine and their adherence to the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) standards. PEFC is a globally recognised certification system that ensures forests are managed sustainably, balancing ecological, social, and economic needs.

Certified Quality and Innovation
IBuilt’s products are certified by the Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia (EWPAA), confirming their compliance with stringent performance and quality standards. For instance, their laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and plywood products meet the AS/NZ2269 standards for structural applications, ensuring reliability and safety in construction projects.
One of IBuilt’s notable innovations is the CoreClad plywood cladding system. Made from F14 plantation Hoop Pine, CoreClad is ACQ treated to meet H3.2 standards, making it ideal for external cladding applications. This product offers superior strength and durability and speeds up installation time, reducing labour costs and environmental impact.
The Importance of Certification
During the visit, Simon Dorries and Matt de Jongh highlighted the crucial role that chain of custody certification plays in promoting sustainably sourced forest products. Certification systems like Responsible Wood and PEFC ensure that forest products are sourced responsibly, supporting biodiversity and contributing to the fight against climate change and deforestation. By adhering to these standards, companies like IBuilt demonstrate their commitment to protecting the environment while meeting the growing demand for sustainable building materials.

Strengthening Collaboration
The visit to IBuilt also strengthened the partnership between Responsible Wood and certificate holders. By collaborating closely with certified organisations and industry leaders, we can further promote the adoption of sustainable sourcing practices, better understand stakeholder concerns, and deliver relevant certification standards across the region. This type of collaboration is vital in driving positive change and ensuring that all stakeholders, from forest managers to consumers, realise the benefits of sustainable forestry.
The Role of Responsible Wood
As an Australian not-for-profit organisation that is accredited to develop standards by Standards Australia, Responsible Wood manages the PEFC certification standards and brand in Australia and New Zealand. Our standards are developed in line with international best practices, ensuring that certified products meet the highest levels of sustainability. Through third-party certification, the Responsible Wood Certification Scheme offers credible assurance that forest products are sourced responsibly, supporting environmental conservation and the principles of sustainable development.
